SARAH’S STORY
Sarah Yoshida is one remarkable girl. She's hip. She's cool. She's got a New York Twist... which is what you'll find when tuning into the Side Project every week.
Sarah was born at a hospital in Manhattan to a Japanese father and an American mother. Her father, Junichiro Yoshida, is a manager for a Japanese fashion company, while her mother, Julie Anderson, is a fitness instructor and model.
A few years after Sarah was born, it was discovered that she had a speech impediment. She went to a special school on Long Island where pathologists and teachers worked on her disorder. Two years later, she had made tremendous progress that teachers decided to advance her to normal school studies.
During her years in elementary school, Sarah took annual trips to Japan to visit her father's relatives. Slowly but surely, she began to gain knowledge of the Japanese language. When the Yoshida family moved to Japan in 1998, Sarah was entered into the Japanese school system. She now speaks fluent English and Japanese, and is back in New York to pursue her bachelor's degree in fashion design.
Sarah's interest in fashion naturally came from her parents, both of whom were involved in the industry in some way or another. After a couple of successful test photo shoots in Japan in 2002, Sarah decided to focus a part of her time in fashion and fitness. She began to exercise daily, and entered dance classes to make her body strong and fluid. Her fitness specialty now is to perform the splits. Her poses while in the splits have garnered much attention in advertisements and print materials... some critics think, too much attention. Nevertheless, splits are now a regular part of Sarah's workout routine.
An outgoing and fun-loving person, Sarah enjoys eating steak and fish, as well as healthy fruits and vegetables. She also loves to listen to Japanese music from all sorts of different genres, from enka to mainstream J-pop and everything in between.
With a beautiful, striking pose, Sarah is a force to be reckoned with as the JRHorse Side Project mascot. She's an example of how one person can overcome the odds and achieve tremendous goals.
